I recently had the opportunity to participate in the TSVS Cadaver Workshop held in Hualien, Taiwan.
During the session, I gave a step-by-step explanation of thoracoabdominal aortic graft replacement surgery. On the following two days, I assisted in live surgeries.
Before the workshop began, we visited Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital to express our greetings and prayers of gratitude to the silent mentors who had selflessly donated their bodies for medical education.
Cadaver workshops are still rare in Japan, but they offer a valuable opportunity to teach delicate surgical techniques that are difficult to demonstrate in a regular operating room.
It was truly fulfilling to take the time to instruct, demonstrate, and share surgical knowledge with many doctors in Taiwan.
As stent grafts have become the mainstay of treatment, very few surgeons in Taiwan now perform left thoracotomy operations. That is why opportunities like this are so important for preserving open surgical techniques.
I am deeply grateful to all the Taiwanese colleagues and mentors who made this meaningful exchange possible. I sincerely hope that our collaboration will continue in the future.
